Preschool Readiness

Peanut heads off to her first day of 3 year old preschool on Tuesday.  We met the teacher, Mrs. Melissa, on Monday and it went really well.  Peanut checked out the room, we asked a few questions, and just generally got more comfortable with the concept of sending our baby off to begin her years of schooling.  I can't believe she's old enough for preschool yet, but I know it's going to be great.

Tonight was back to school night for the entire school.  We went and checked out the school again, met some of the kids who will be in her classroom, did a scavenger hunt to find things in the classrooms, and Peanut got some popcorn.  She had a great time, but gave us the first inclination that she might not be thrilled to be dropped off on Tuesday.  She kept saying how she didn't want us to leave when she went to school and that she will miss us.  I hope she doesn't even think about it on Tuesday and has an awesome time with her new friends.  I'm going to have a hard enough time dropping her off even if she is a rockstar, so it will be that much harder if she is having a rough time.

In preparation for preschool, we have been working on math - addition and subtraction verbal story problems.  She is actually pretty good at answering them, and got quite a few correct in both addition and subtraction, but then she wanted to come up with her own problems for me to answer.  The first one was hilarious, and went like this:

"If you have two balloons, and I give you a lot more, how many balloons will you have?"

Once I told her she needed to tell me how many a lot of balloons actually was she did better coming up with her own story problems, but I thought it was cute any way.

I am very excited for her to start school but my heart also hurts to think of dropping her off from 8 to 11:30 by herself twice a week.  I can't believe my baby is so big already.  Please stay little, Peanut, I'm not ready for you to grow up just yet.
