One Month!

Yesterday marked one month since Pumpkin (aka little man, aka beeble) was born.  He weighed 9 pounds 4 ounces according to our scale.  We need to take his one month pictures soon and then we have his baptism this Sunday (June 2).  I can't believe he's already a month old, time passes too quickly!

Little Man is 4 weeks old & Peanut's Gymnastics Show

Little guy was four weeks old on Sunday!  He started gaining weight at a week and a half and he keeps on growing :).  Thank goodness, I was really hoping to not have to supplement and it looks like we should be okay for a while.  At around three weeks we started establishing a routine and little guy finally got his days and nights figured out, which has helped immensely with me not being as overtired.

Current weight 8 lbs 15 oz

Our current schedule looks something like this:
Wake up around 6:00 AM
Nap 3-4 times during the day, with usually 2 alert awake periods where he isn't nursing (he likes to nurse a lot)
Down for the night around 11:00 PM after eating, although he usually sleeps before then in the living room
He usually gets up to eat between 2 and 3 AM

He's really getting good at holding up his head, likes the bath, hates the car seat but usually falls asleep when the car starts moving, and poor guy has horrible diaper rash that we are trying to get under control.

As for news about peanut, she is doing some wonderful things!  She is a fantastic big sister and tries to help when she can - giving him a paci, grabbing my cover for breastfeeding when he fusses, etc. She also had her first gymnastics recital recently and really amazed me with how well she did.  The kids all had to wait upstairs with the coaches...Ben went with her at the beginning, but was sent downstairs before the show started, so Peanut was by herself with the group of kids and a teacher she didn't know.  She has never been without family and I was really nervous when Ben came downstairs and she wasn't with him, but we had no tears!  She walked down with her group looking a little nervous, but got very excited once she saw us in the stands.

The group started with a  dance together.  We've been practicing the routine a lot at home and Peanut was fantastic.  She knew the routine better than any of the kids around her.  I was so thrilled that she did the dance in front of an audience with no parent help for the first time!  Then her group, group A, went to bars.  I was nervous about the bars because she doesn't always want to do the flip in class, and I was more nervous after watching the group start.  The woman helping the kids on the bar was an older woman who was fairly quirky and not great with the kids, plus they had set up a bar to do a new flip that Peanut had never learned.  Fortunately, Peanut's teacher Miss Kristin came over to help her specifically and things were great - Peanut was so happy and proud of herself.  I was proud too, she did a great job!

After bars was the beam, and a younger teacher who we've seen before but Peanut has never had helped Peanut.  Thankfully, she had no problem doing her tricks with the new teacher and did a great job!  She was so proud doing her "ta-da!" at the end of the beam.  We hit a snag with the obstacle course when the older lady who was pretty strange tried to take her through, Peanut did not want to participate at all.  Miss Lina was called over to help and Peanut finally did the tricks but needed a lot of prompting and "assistance" with things she can do easily.

The final event, trampoline, went well though and Peanut did all of the tricks that the teacher asked her to do!  All in all it was a great success!

Little Man...One Week

Little man is doing great!  The only hurdle we have so far is that he's not gaining weight.  He is maintaining (7 pounds 14.5 ounces), so hopefully gaining is right around the corner.  We have a lactation consult Thursday so we will see what they say.  I'm crossing my fingers that we won't have to supplement.

MAC...

Peanut can spell her name now!! She no longer gets confused by the Z.  Way to go Peanut!

In Labor...

I'm pretty sure I'm in labor...I started having pretty strong contractions around 6:50 and they've only gotten stronger.  Timing isn't very consistent at this point, but the pain definitely is.  They're a 9-10 on the pain scale.

That's what I started writing the night of April 27th...and I was right.  At around 9:00 that night we called my mom to come pick up Peanut because I was pretty sure I was in early labor.

I was increasingly uncomfortable until about 11:30 and then the contractions became almost unbearable.  At 12:06 they started being 1-6 minutes apart and by 12:30 I told Ben to start loading the car for the hospital.  We took our time because I wanted to make sure they had been 1-6 minutes apart for at least an hour by the time we checked in to labor and delivery.  On the way, I had a 6 minute break and made Ben pull off in the Burger King parking lot because I wanted to make sure it was the real deal.  Once the next contraction came, we were on our way.

At about 1:00 AM we parked in the hospitals parking garage and walked to triage.  They assigned us to a triage room and before I could get the gown on and get into bed, my Dr came into the room very excited that I had checked in.  I was so glad to see her!  I knew she was on call that weekend but thought she was on days, not nights.  Yay!  She didn't even bother hooking me up to the monitors, she checked me right away -- dilated to a three and zero station!  I was so relieved to hear her say, "you're being admitted!".  The nurse came in and hooked up the monitors for just a few minutes and saw a contraction.  Then we were taken to my labor and delivery room.

The nurse at labor and delivery was awesome.  She joked with us and was very friendly, made sure to answer all of our questions.  I labored until about 4:30 and then wanted the epidural.  I had the nurse check me to see how far I was dilated.  Only a 3 to a 4, I was really bummed.  However, my bag of waters had come right down instead of high and back like it had been.  She had told me that the epidural might slow progress down, so I was disappointed that I hadn't progressed more before asking.  The anesthesiologist inserted the epidural and the dr broke my water at 5:00 AM.  Shortly after that the baby's heart rate started decelerating and the nurse came in to the room to have me change position.  I was feeling pressure, so she checked me.  Sure enough, I had dilated to a 9!  We called our parents and told them to come in.

Unfortunately, I stayed at a 9 for over an hour.  I was getting worried as the nurses were scheduled for a shift change at 7:30 and the drs at 8:00.  I so badly wanted my dr to be there when I delivered and time was running out!  Just before 7:30 I had finally dilated fully and they set up the room for pushing.  I pushed for an hour and at 8:30 AM the little guy was born!!  By 9:15 AM everything had been delivered and I was taken care of.  I had two minor tears and a second degree tear that required two kits of stitches.  Even though her shift had ended at 8:00, my dr had stayed until 9:15 and I am so grateful!

I couldn't have asked for a better labor - the whole experience was much, much different than the first time around!
