February 2014

Hard to believe we are already in February.  Boy does time fly, especially with little ones underfoot.  Here are some updates as to how the kiddos are doing:

Peanut is doing two gymnastics classes a week, one with Miss Lina and one with Mr. Adam.  They are opposites in how they lead the class so having both classes each week has been really nice.  Peanut is flipping over the bar by herself for the most part, only requiring a helpful one finger nudge to get her started in moving forward.  She can hold herself up with strong arms now but she just doesn't want to make herself "fall" into the flip.  She is also walking across the big beam with kicks, etc. on her own although she is still very tentative.  On the trampoline she is working on a new trick  - seat drop, doggy drop, forward roll.  There is still quite a bit to be desired in her rope climbing and rock wall climbing skills though - ha!  She pulls with her hands but her feet just dangle. She is working on completing a forward roll without using her hands to stand up - she's getting better but isn't quite there yet.  Her donkey kicks and cartwheels are really starting to come along though.  I am so impressed by her progress since we started at 18 months.

In swim lessons, Peanut just moved up to level one yesterday and she did a fantastic job.  I was so impressed.  She was tentative, but she did everything the teacher asked - except jump in - and some of the stuff was brand new.  They used the Q-tip like floating objects to hold onto and kick both on belly and back and she did it, even though she was nervous.  She's come really far since the start of lessons - from crying on the sidelines to actively participating and getting everything but her eyes and nose wet.

Outside of lessons, Peanut is really enjoying card games, board games, and her sing along songs dvd.  She is really into the Disney princesses and loves the new movie Frozen - she's seen it twice in theaters. She loves to create her own dances and sing the princess songs.  We are hoping to enroll her in dance class this fall when she starts Preschool.  Can't believe we are almost ready to start school - she's growing too quickly.

Bug is getting so big.  He is pulling to stand, walking around holding on to things, getting down nicely, crawling like crazy, and eating everything in sight.  He's babbling with mama, dada, etc. but not actually using words yet.  His teeth have been coming in sets - he started with the bottom two front teeth, then the next set was the top four middle teeth, and now the two outside middle teeth on the bottom are coming in.  Poor guy.  He is an explorer, wants to get into everything and anything, and he is also a yeller.  He screeches when he's happy, sad, mad, angry...you name it, he yells.  He is so sweet though, and he gives hugs, and snuggles, and high fives.  So very cute.  He adores his big sister and is a Mama's boy.

He has a heart murmur that they heard at his 9 month Drs appointment so we are waiting for the heart clinic to call us and schedule an appointment to make sure everything is okay.  The Dr didn't seem too concerned about it so I'm trying to stay calm.  She just wanted to make sure to check it out as a precaution.  Hopefully everything is A-Ok and sorts itself out.

We are starting Bug in swim lessons this summer, so hopefully that will go well.  I'm also considering starting Peanut in tennis lessons, but we'll do dance classes first.  I want my kids to be active and involved in sports and other activities, but I don't want to wear them out from being in too much at once.

Hubby and I are planning our 5th anniversary vacation without kids, which is very much needed at this point.  We are either doing a long weekend in New York City or a week long vacation to Hawaii with friends.  It's all dependent on what our friends decide to do - the two trips are very different, but if it's just the two of us we want to keep costs down.  We are hoping to do a big Disney trip with the two kids in 2015 which will be expensive, so saving money now is a plus but I can't say no to Hawaii if our friends decide to go :).

We also have a trip planned to visit Hubby's sister and brother-in-law at the beginning of March which will be nice.  We haven't been out to see their place yet and we don't get to see them all that often any more so it will be nice to have a few days together.  We aren't looking forward to the long drive, but we'll get over it :).

I think that's all for now - hopefully the next update won't be too far away!
